Releases FACT SHEET: The New Visions
Program for Boys and Young Men
New Visions: A
milestone | Quick facts | Voices
and faces
WHAT IS NEW VISIONS? •
New Visions is a series of classes for boys and
young men from 10 to 20 years old. • The free
classes are held during afternoons at local youth
centers
WHAT DOES IT TEACH? The classes
are held in 63 sessions covering 19 topics: •
Civil and legal rights, health rights. •
Communication, human relations, emotions,
environment. • First aid, personal health and
nutrition, puberty and adolescence, reproductive
health. • Work, family, “our community.” •
Gender awareness and gender roles, marriage. •
Life skills, planning for the future, self esteem,
and values.
TWO GOALS: • By teaching
young males how to better support their female
counterparts, New Visions complements the New
Horizons program, which builds self-esteem in
girls and young women. • New Visions also
teaches young men vital skills for satisfaction in
their own lives, from time management to anger
management.
REFLECTING THE COMMUNITY: •
The program is funded by the U.S. Agency for
International Development, but the ideas and
leadership come from the local community. • The
Center for Development & Population Activities
(CEDPA) designed the curriculum in collaboration
with local nongovernmental organizations,
community development associations, and leaders
from eight potential host communities including
schoolteachers, mosque speakers, parents and
boys. • Members of the local communities were
asked to become facilitators and were
trained.
SUPPORTED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF
EGYPT: Crucial support for the activity comes
from: • The Ministry of Education and Minister
Dr. Hussein Kamel Bahaa El Din. • The Ministry
of Youth and Minister Dr. Alay El Din Helal. •
